Our History

Established in 1963, Howick Pakuranga Netball Centre (HPNC) has been at the heart of netball in East Auckland for more than 60 years. From humble beginnings, the Centre has grown into one of New Zealand's largest and most respected community netball centres, providing opportunities for thousands of players, coaches, umpires, volunteers, and supporters each year.

Throughout our history, HPNC has remained committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where people of all ages and abilities can enjoy the game of netball. Generations of families have played, coached, officiated, and volunteered at our Centre, helping to build the strong community spirit that continues to define us today.

Our facilities have evolved significantly over the decades to meet the growing needs of our community. Today, HPNC is home to 18 outdoor courts and hosts a wide range of competitions, representative programmes, development initiatives, school competitions, holiday programmes, and community events throughout the year. We are proud to support pathways from Woolworths futureFERNS through to representative and performance netball, while also providing opportunities for social participation and lifelong involvement in the sport.

The success of HPNC has always been built on the dedication of our volunteers, officials, coaches, clubs, schools, sponsors, and countless individuals who have generously given their time and expertise. Their commitment has enabled the Centre to continually grow while maintaining the values of teamwork, respect, inclusion, and excellence.

As we look to the future, HPNC continues to invest in our facilities and programmes to ensure we remain a thriving community hub for generations to come. Exciting developments, including plans for covered courts and expanded year-round participation opportunities, will allow us to continue growing the game and providing an exceptional experience for everyone who walks through our gates.

Today, Howick Pakuranga Netball Centre proudly welcomes thousands of participants and visitors each year, remaining true to our vision of connecting our community through netball while honouring the rich history that has shaped our Centre since 1963.
